LGBTI relationship violence flexi-support packages
The Victorian AIDS Council (VAC) is pleased to be able to deliver LGBTI Relationship Violence Flexi-Support Packages to members of our community who may be at risk of relationship violence. A state-wide community led organisation, VAC seeks to increase the capacity for LGBTI individuals and families to be appropriately supported in their choices about moving on from intimate partner and family violence to improve their safety as a result.

Collaboration with The Faculty of Arts' Gender and Violence Initiative
From 2017 a team of researchers from the Faculty of Arts Gender and Violence Initiative formed a new collaboration with MAEVe expanding further the research scope of the alliance. The Gender and Violence Initiative will generate new research from humanities and social sciences on gender and violence in the Asia-Pacific region focusing on the three main themes: gendered violence and equity; historical violence; and trauma and narrative. This will complement existing projects in these areas across the University.As part of this collaboration, MAEVe has welcomed three new members to its steering committee, all of whom hold the title of co-leads of the Arts Gender and Violence Initiative within MAEVe.

Geeta: A Documentary by Emma Macey-Storch
MAEVe are supporting the team behind GEETA the documentary to raise tax-deductible donations for post-production. Set in the backstreets of Agra’s slums in India, GEETA takes us on the powerful journey of a survivor, who from the brink of suicide finds the courage to fight for a better life for herself and her daughters, while at the same time building a powerful movement for change in India. It’s a beautiful portrait of sisterhood and a new wave of women’s rights in India.

Children speak out on family violence (Pursuit)
This Pursuit article, titled 'Children speak out on family violence' features interviews with children and young people whose fathers use violence. This research, conducted by Dr Kirsty Lamb, is part of the University of Melbourne’s broader “Fathering Challenges” research project that is funded by the Australian Research Council and led by Professor Cathy Humphreys (MAEVe co-chair).

Promoting safe and respectful relationships for children and young people in care
MAEVe researchers Dr Gemma McKibbin and Prof Cathy Humphreys (co-chair) have partnered with MacKillop Family Services to work on Breaking the cycle: Promoting safe and respectful relationships for children & young people in care. Children and young people in out-of-home care are at significantly increased risk of living with domestic and family violence, as well as being victimised through harmful sexual behaviour and sexual exploitation.

MAEVe responds to Victorian Government budget 17-18
MAEVe welcomes the State Government’s recently announced $1.9 billion package to address family violence. As the Government has stated, family violence is “a national emergency that costs far too many lives”, and MAEVe commends the Labor Government on this unprecedented injection of funding to address the issue.We are particularly pleased to see the Government announce a further $1.9 billion in funding on top of the $572 million invested last year to begin work on the Royal Commission’s most urgent recommendations.

MAEVe launches Safer Families CRE
Australia’s first and only Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) to promote safer families will lead research into the health effects of intimate partner violence on individuals and families, and how the health sector can respond. The Centre for Research Excellence to promote Safer Families — led by Kelsey Hegarty, Stephanie Brown and Cathy Humphreys will also research the health sector responses needed to improve safety, health and wellbeing.

Early Intervention forum
On Friday 7th April, MAEVe held the highly successful forum Early Intervention: Changing the trajectory to prevent violence against women and their children. The event was attended by over 100 delegates from a mixture of the tertiary education, community and government sectors, and featured international and national experts in the sometimes-neglected area of early intervention into family violence and violence against women and their children (VAW).

Prevention of Violence Against Women Community Fellowship
The Community Fellows Program aims to meet the research needs of community organisations to conduct small research-related projects in collaboration with university-based researchers. Depending on the size of the project, a grant of up to $5000 will be available to the community-based organisations to compensate them for the time that Community Fellows spend working at the University. At least one fellowship will be awarded focusing specifically on the prevention of violence against women.

Safe and Strong: A Victorian Gender Equality Strategy was launched Monday 5 December 2016 by the Andrews Labor Government. The first ever strategy of its kind, it is driven by the recognition that gender inequality is one of the key drivers of family violence.

Andrews' government releases 10 Year Plan to End Family Violence
On 25th November 2016, The Andrews' Labor Government delivered landmark reforms to protect women and children, with the release of a 10 Year Plan to end family violence. Ending Family Violence: Victoria’s Plan for Change details how the Labor Government will deliver the 227 recommendations made by Australia’s first Royal Commission into Family Violence and build a new system that protects families and punishes perpetrators.
